Catonsville, Md. (April 25, 2012)--Mount St. Mary's fell to UMBC, 15-10, in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night.  Josh Winter went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in the loss.

After falling behind 2-0, the Mount (12-34) evened the score on a Nick Walker two-run homer in the top of the third inning.

The teams exchanged the lead several times in the middle innings.  Andrew Clow's sacrifice fly in the fourth put the Mount ahead 3-2, but UMBC (9-29) countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.

Brandon Scott doubled and then scored on a Michael Foster base hit to even the score in the fifth.  Foster later came home on a wild pitch to give the Mount a 5-4 lead.

After UMBC evened the game again in the bottom of the inning, the Mount took a 7-5 lead in the sixth.  Mo Moriarty and Ryan Owens posted back-to-back doubles to open the frame.  Owens then scored on a Jay Knight groundout.

The Retrievers, however, broke the game open with five run innings in both the sixth and seventh.

Winter led the Mount with his 3-for-5 day at the plate.  His two RBI five him a Northeast Conference leading 40 on the season.  It is also just the seventh time since the Mount moved to NCAA Division I in 1989 that a player has reached 40 RBI in a season.

Walker went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, a home run and two RBI in the loss.  Moriarty and Scott each had 2-for-4 days at the plate with two runs scored as well.

On the mound, starter Scott Nickerson allowed five runs in five innings in a no decision.

Brian Klukowicz went 4-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI for the Retrievers.

The Mountaineers are back in action next Tuesday with a 6 p.m. game at Virginia.
