University Park, Pa. (April 24, 2012)—Penn State scored five times in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally for a 5-3 win over Mount St. Mary's at Medlar Field on Tuesday night.

The Mount (12-33) scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-0 lead.  Josh Winter belted a two-run triple to bring home the first two runs, and then came home to score on a Ryan Owens sacrifice fly.

The Nittany Lions (19-21) rallied with five runs in the eighth to pick up the victory.  Penn State loaded the bases with no outs on a double, a walk and a single before JJ White came through with a two-run single to cut the Mount lead to 3-2.

Mount reliever Thomas Williams got a fielder's choice for the first out of the inning, but Elliot Searer's RBI single knotted the score at 3-3.  Sean Deegan then laced a triple to left field to plate the go ahead runs.

Penn State reliever Scott Dixon then struck out the side in the ninth to preserve the win.

Michael Foster went 2-for-5 at the plate in the game for the Mount while Winter was 1-for-4 with his two-run triple.  Mark Quaranta and Owens also had base hits in the game.

Mount St. Mary's starter Chris Campbell pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, striking out four while allowing three hits.  Williams gave up five runs in 3.2 innings of work.

The Mount is back in action tomorrow night with a 6:00 p.m. game at UMBC.
