Mount Baseball Visits Quinnipiac for Four-Game Series Starting on Friday

MOUNT UPDATE:  The Mount lost at Georgetown, 5-3, on Tuesday night to fall to 11-24 on the season.  Mark Quaranta had an RBI double and Josh Winter a two-run homer in the first inning to give the Mount the early lead.  The Hoyas scored three times in the second to take a 4-3 lead and held on for the victory.  The game was the first of a 17-game road trip for the Mountaineers, who are now 5-5 on the road this season.  Quaranta leads the Mount with a 3.62 average while Winter is hitting .318 with an NEC-best 32 RBI.  On the mound, Karl Lamont is the top starter with a 1-4 record and a 4.47 ERA in 48.1 innings of work.

QUINNIPIAC UPDATE:  The Bobcats enter this weekend's series 3-26 overall and 2-14 in the Northeast Conference.  Quinnipiac has lost 13 games in a row after falling to Rhode Island, 8-6, on Tuesday afternoon.  Kyle Nisson leads the Bobcats with a .299 average while Gabe Guerino is hitting .283 on the year.  Vincent Guglietti has a team-high 14 RBI as Quinnipiac has scored just 89 runs in 29 games this year.  On the mound, Derek Lamacchia is the top starter with an 0-5 record and a 5.00 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 36.0 innings.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES vs. QUINNIPIAC:  Quinnipiac holds a 24-18 lead in the all-time series that began in 1999.  The Bobcats swept a four-game series at the Mount last year, but the Mount has won 10 of the past 16 meetings dating back to 2008.  The Mount won three of four in their last appearance at Quinnipiac in 2010, including Kent Worthington's no hitter in the Mount's 18-0 win in the final game of the series.

LAST YEAR AGAINST THE BOBCATS:  Quinnipiac swept a pair of doubleheaders in the four-game series at the Mount's E.T. Straw Family Stadium last season.  The Mount managed just nine runs in the four games, hitting .246 with four extra base hits in the series.  Quinnipiac posted 7-4 and 4-1 victories in the opening twinbill, and came back with 3-2 and 7-2 wins in the final two games.  Andrew Caron hit .545 (6-for-11) to pace the Mount offense while Zach Helman was 5-for-12 (.417) in the four games.

CAREER NUMBERS VS. QUINNIPIAC:  Brady Feigl is 2-0 with a 3.55 ERA in 12.2 innings vs. Quinnipiac…Michael Foster is 10-for-28 (.357) with five runs scored in 10 games…Mark Quaranta is hitting .346 (9-for-26) with a home run in eight games…Josh Winter is 15-for-41 (.366) with two home runs and 13 RBI in 11 games vs. the Bobcats.

ROAD WARRIORS:  The Mount's 5-3 loss at Georgetown on Tuesday was the first game of a 17-game road trip.  The Mount will play in eight different cities during the trip that will see a 32-day gap between Mount home games.  The Mount is 5-5 on the road this season.

LEAGUE LEADER:  Senior Josh Winter leads the Northeast Conference with 32 RBI this season.  Winter, who is riding a 10-game hit streak, has a .318 average with 10 doubles and four home runs for the Mount this season.  He has moved into fifth place on the Mount's all-time RBI list with 103, 13 shy of Shane Eyler for fourth.

HIT PARADE:  Junior Mark Quaranta is tied for the lead in the Northeast Conference with 46 hits this season.  Quaranta, who is hitting .362 with four home runs, 25 runs scored and 25 RBI, is one hit ahead of LIU's Pete Leonello.  Quaranta is currently seventh all-time at the Mount with a career .331 average.  Mount teammates Michael Foster (42) and Josh Winter (42) are tied for fourth in the NEC in hits.

THE RILEY FACTOR:  Sophomore right-hander Nick Riley has been solid for the Mount of late, posting a 1-0 record and a 1.93 ERA over the past 10 games.  Riley has struck out nine while allowing 11 hits in 14.0 innings over that stretch.  Riley is now 1-3 on the year with a 6.57 ERA in a team-high 17 appearances.  He has 25 strikeouts in 38.1 innings pitched.

FOSTER HAVING SOLID CAMPAIGN:  Michael Foster is hitting .309 this season with 23 runs scored.  In NEC play, the senior infielder leads the Mount with a .311 average in 16 games played.

TOUGH LUCK: Left-hander Karl Lamont has been the Mount's top pitcher in NEC games this year with a 3.08 ERA in 26.1 innings of work.  Lamont, however, has an 0-3 record in those games due to 12 unearned runs. 

ON THE BASE PATHS:  Sophomore Nick Walker leads the Mount with 11 stolen bases this season.  He has yet to be caught stealing in 2012 and his 18 career steals are tied for 10th on the Mount's all-time list.

THE PAST 15:  Checking the stats over the past 15 games…Michael Foster is hitting .321 (18-for-56) over the past 15 gamess with a team-high 11 runs scored…Josh Winter is hitting .278 with two home runs and 10 RBI…Mark Quaranta has a .294 average with two home runs and 12 RBI…Nick Riley (1-1, 3.00 ERA), Karl Lamont (0-2, 3.16 ERA) and Thomas Williams (1-1, 3.20 ERA) have been the top pitchers over the past 15 games.

CHECKING THE CAREER CHARTS:  Josh Winter is fifth all-time in RBI's (103), 9th in games played (165), 10th in at bats (519), 10th in hits (152), tied for 7th in doubles (34), tied for second in triples (6) and 9th in total bases (231) at the Mount…Mark Quaranta is seventh in career batting average (.331)…Nick Walker and Brandon Scott are tied for 10th in stolen bases (18)…Michael Foster is tied for eighth with 19 steals…Dan Horner is 10th in ERA (4.95), tied for first in lowest opponent batting average (.254) and fifth in saves (4)…Brady Feigl is ninth in strikeouts (147).
