Mount Hosts Wagner for Four-Game Series This Weekend

MOUNT UPDATE:  Mount St. Mary's split a pair of midweek games and enters the four-game series 7-19 overall and 0-8 in the Northeast Conference.  Ben Smallenbroek allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings as the Mount defeated UMES 6-3 on Wednesday.  Mark Quaranta leads the  Mount with a .374 average and 19 runs scored.  Michael Foster has a 10-game hit streak and is hitting .311 on the year.  Josh Winter paced the team with 23 RBI while he is hitting .317 on the season.  On the mound, Dan Horner is 1-2 with a 4.44 ERA and two saves while Karl Lamont is 1-3 with a 4.99 ERA in 30.2 innings of work.

WAGNER UPDATE:  Wagner enters the weekend series with a 9-15 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the Northeast Conference.  The Seahawks fell to Rutgers, 13-8, on Wednesday in a non-conference matchup.  Last weekend, Wagner split a four-game series with Monmouth.  Wagner's Ryan Van Spronsen is one of the top pitchers in the Northeast Conference.  He is 3-1 with a league-best 1.58 ERA in five starts this season.  At the plate, Bill Murphy has a team-best .351 average while Eddie Brown is hitting .339 while leading the team in doubles (7) and RBI (15).

THE ALL-TIME SERIES vs. WAGNER:  Wagner holds a 38-30 lead in the all-time series since the Mount moved to Division I in 1989.  The Mount, however, is 15-9 against Wagner since 2006.  Last year, the teams split a four-game series at Wagner with the Seahawks winning the opening two games and the Mount capturing the final two.  The Mount is 18-13 at home against Wagner.

LAST YEAR AGAINST THE SEAHAWKS:  The Mount and Wagner split the four-game series last year at Wagner.  The Seahawks won the opening two games before the Mount rallied to take the final two.  Zach Helman led the Mount, going 8-for-12 (.667) at the plate with two doubles and six RBI.  Michael Foster and Tommy Flynn each went 6-for-15 (.400) in the four-game set while Shane Eyler hit .385 with six RBI.  Max Brittenham went 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 10 innings and two appearances on the mound for the Mount.

FOSTER ON HIT STREAK:  Senior leadoff hitter Michael Foster is riding a 10-game hit streak, the longest by a Mount player this season.  Foster is 14-for-45 (.311) at the plate during the streak.  For the year, he is 33-for-106 (.311) at the plate with 16 runs scored and 10 RBI.

QUARANTA ON THE MARK:  Junior Mark Quaranta leads the Mount with a .374 average and 19 runs scored this season.  Quaranta has 11 multiple-hit games this year while leading the team in slugging percentage (.495) and on-base percentage (.422).  He is hitting .397 over the past 18 games.

WINTER DRIVING HOME THE RUNS:  Josh Winter leads the Mount with 23 RBI in 26 games played this year.  The senior first baseman is hitting .317 with a team-high seven doubles and 23 RBI.  He is hitting .421 with runners in scoring position and .381 with runners on base.

CHECKING THE CAREER CHARTS:  Mark Quaranta has a .331 career batting average, good for seventh all-time at the Mount…Josh Winter is 12th all-time in hits (142), 13th in doubles (31) and 10th in RBI (94)…Michael Foster's 18 career steals are ninth all-time while Brandon Scott and Nick Walker are tied for 10th with 17 steals…On the mound, Dan Horner is tied for first all-time with a .254 opponents batting average while he is seventh with a 4.82 career ERA.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE?:  The Mount is 1-7 at home this season after going 8-12 at E.T. Straw Family Stadium in 2011.
