MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount dropped all four games of its weekend series at Sacred Heart to fall to 6-18 overall and 0-8 in the Northeast Conference. The Mount offense struggled at Sacred Heart, scoring 10 runs with a .203 average in the four games. Mark Quaranta leads the Mount with a .380 average and 18 runs scored while Josh Winter is hitting .323 with 22 RBI. Michael Foster hit .412 at Sacred Heart and is now hitting .320 for the year. On the mound, Dan Horner is 1-2 with a 4.81 ERA in 24.1 innings of work.
ABOUT THE RETRIEVERS: UMBC went 1-2 in three games at Tulane this past weekend and enters Tuesday's game with a 6-12 record. Anthony Gatto leads the Retrievers with a .313 average while Max Himmelstein is hitting .303 with four home runs and 10 RBI. On the mound, Mac Gill is the top starter with a 1.86 ERA in 19.1 innings of work.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES vs. UMBC: UMBC holds a 28-11 lead in the all-time series since the Mount moved to NCAA Division I in 1989. Last year, the teams split a pair of games with the Mount winning 8-6 at home and UMBC capturing a 7-2 victory at home. The Mount has won the past three meetings between the teams in Emmitsburg and hasn't lost to UMBC at home since April 21, 2004.
LAST YEAR AGAINST THE RETRIEVERS: Sam Nott hit a pinch-hit two-run double in the eighth inning to lead the Mount past UMBC, 8-6, on March 29 last year. Trailing 6-5 heading into the bottom of the eighth, Nott lined a 1-2 pitch down the left field line to score two runs and give the Mount the lead for good. Zach Helman went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for the Mount in the win. Helman and Brandon Scott each had a pair of hits in the Mount's 7-2 loss at UMBC on April 27.
ABOUT THE HAWKS: Maryland-Eastern Shore enters Wednesday's game 2-21 on the season after dropping two of three games to Delaware State this past weekend. James Newsome leads UMES with a .289 average while Tre-von Johnson is hitting .282 with a team-high 12 runs scored. Bernard Parker is 1-0 with a 3.95 ERA on the mound while Zachary Saca has a 4.55 ERA in a team-high 12 appearances.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES vs. MARYLAND-EASTERN SHORE: The Mount has won the past 13 meetings with UMES and now holds a 26-4 lead in the all-time series that began in 1994. Mount St. Mary's swept a doubleheader at UMES on March 13, winning 11-6 and 6-0.
EARLIER THIS YEAR VS. THE HAWKS: The Mount swept a doubleheader at UMES on March 13, taking game one 11-6 and winning the nightcap, 6-0. In game one, Michael Foster and Mark Quaranta each had three hits to pace the Mount to the win. Josh Winter added a pair of hits and three RBI while Tom Healy belted a three-run homer in the game. In the second game, Ben Smallenbroek and Dan Horner combined for a six-hit shutout. Smallenbroek allowed four hits with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings while Horner closed the game with six strikeouts in 2.1 innings to post the save. Jack Schwartz went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored to pace the offense.
