Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (March 18, 2012)--Bryant defeated Mount St. Mary's, 13-6, to complete a four-game sweep of the Northeast Conference series at E.T. Straw Family Stadium on campus. Josh Winter belted a two-run homer for the Mount in the loss.
Bryant (9-8, 4-0 NEC) scored four times in the top of the first inning to take control of the game. Kevin Brown, who had four homers in the four-game series, hit a two-run shot to left to give Bryant the early lead.
The Bulldogs added a run in the third and four more in the fourth for a commanding 9-0 advantage.
The Mount (5-13, 0-4 NEC) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Mark Quaranta doubled to right center and Winter followed with a two-run homer to left to cut the deficit to 9-2.
Bryant tallied two runs in the top of the sixth and the Mount answered those with two in the bottom of the frame. Michael Foster, Nick Walker and Quaranta each singled to load the bases with no outs. Winter hit a sacrifice fly to plate Foster to cut the deficit to 11-3. Sam Nott followed with a double down the left-field line to score Walker.
After Bryant scored twice in the seventh, the Mount scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to round out the scoring. Ryan Owens was robbed of a base hit on a diving catch by the right fielder, but was credited with a sacrifice fly when Nott tagged up from third on the play to score. The Mount added its second run on a Bryant error.
Quaranta went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double to improve his average to .382 on the season. Michael Foster was 2-for-5 with a run scored while Winter went 1-for-3 with three RBI. Winter is hitting .368 on the season with a team-high 21 RBI in 18 games played.
The Mount returns to action on Tuesday, March 20, with a 3:00 p.m. home game against Bucknell at Straw Family Stadium.
