Mount Baseball Opens NEC Play at Home on Friday vs. Bryant

MOUNT UPDATE:  Tom Healy's walk-off two-run homer lifted the Mount to a 10-9 win against Georgetown on Wednesday.  The Mount has won four games in a row after starting the season with a 1-9 record.  Offensively, the Mount's trio of Josh Winter, Mark Quaranta and Michael Foster lead the way.  Winter is hitting a robust .407 with 17 RBIs in the 14 games.  Quaranta is hitting .396 with two home runs and 12 RBI while Foster is hitting .340 on the year.  On the mound, reliever Dan Horner is 1-1 with a 3.77 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 14.1 innings of work. 

ABOUT THE BULLDOGS:  Bryant enters the weekend series 5-8 on the year after a 6-2 win at Liberty on Tuesday afternoon.  The Bulldogs have not played a home game this season and are 3-7 on the road and 2-1 at a neutral site.  At the plate, Dan Muscatello is hitting .277 with seven RBI while Jamie Skagerlind is hitting .273.  As a team, the Bulldogs have a .221 average and have scored 52 runs in the 13 games (4.0/game).  On the mound, Peter Kelich has been thhe top pitcher, posting a 2-1 record with a 1.80 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 25.0 innings of work. 

THE ALL-TIME SERIES vs. BRYANT:  Bryant holds a 6-2 lead in the all-time series with the Mount that began in 2010.  The Bulldogs have won the past six matchups, including a four-game sweep in Rhode Island last year.  The Mount's last win over Bryant was an 8-4 victory at Straw Family Stadium on April 17, 2010.

LAST YEAR'S VS. THE BULLDOGS:  Bryant posted a four-game sweep in last year's series in Rhode Island.  The Bulldogs held the Mount to six runs and a .175 average in the four-game set.  Bryant took the opener, 3-1, before posting a 3-0 win in the second game.  The Bulldogs finished the sweep with 9-3 and 5-2 wins.

HEALY'S WALK-OFF:  Tom Healy belted a walk-off two-run homer to lead the Mount to a 10-9 win over Georgetown on Wednesday night.  It is the seventh walk-off home run by a Mount player since the 2004 season.  Healy has two home runs this season, with both coming over the past three games.

WINTER STARTS STRONG:  Senior Josh Winter has recorded at least one hit in 11 of the Mount's 12 games this year.  Winter leads the Mount with a .407 average, four doubles and 17 RBI.   Winter is hitting .299 for his career at the Mount and he is 12th all-time with 88 RBI.

HORNER COMES UP BIG:  Senior Dan Horner was almost unhittable in the Mount's 9-6 win in 11 innings at James Madison.  Horner struck out six and allowed just one hit in five innings of relief to earn the win in the game.  He is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in six appearances this year.  Horner has 14 strikeouts in 12.0 innings of work.

QUARANTA AT THE PLATE:  Mark Quaranta is hitting .396 with two home runs and 12 RBI this season for the Mountaineers.  The left-handed hitting catcher is seventh all-time at the  Mount with a .329 career average and he needs two more hits to reach 100 for his career.

WELCOME BACK BRADY:  Left-hander Brady Feigl is 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA so far this season after missing the 2011 season due to injury.  Feigl has struck out 14 batters in eight innings of work and is holding the opponents to a .080 average so far this year.

UP NEXT:  Mount St. Mary's host Bucknell on Tuesday and heads to Navy next Wednesday for its midweek games before heading to Sacred Heart (Mar. 23-25) for a four-game NEC series.
