Mount Update: Sadie Winship buried a free kick from 23 yards out with 49 seconds left in the first overtime to lift Mount St. Mary's past Rider, 1-0, in the season opener. Winship took the free kick just outside the top of the penalty box and slipped her shot just under the cross bar in the upper left-hand corner to send the Mount home with the victory. Winship's goal was the 10th in her career, moving her into ninth place on the Mount's all-time goal list. The win was just the second in a season opening game for the Mount since the program started in 1992. The Mount is now 2-18 all time in season openers with the last win coming in 2005 over Delaware State. Goalkeeper Alicia Miller made 12 saves in the game to record her eighth career shutout, good for second all-time in program history.Rider held a 26-to-17 advantage in shots in the game, including a two-to-one edge in the overtime period. The Mount had six corner kicks to Rider's five. Winship led the Mount with five shots with Kelly Baker chipping in four.
About the Hawks: Saint Joseph's is 0-2 on the season after losses to Villanova (2-1) and Binghamton (2-0). The Hawks play at Delaware on Friday night. Christine Neal made seven saves in the loss to Binghamton as the Hawks were outshot, 11-8, in the game. Maggie Lupinski scored the lone Saint Joseph's goal in the 2-1 loss to Villanova. Neal has a 1.50 goals against average while making 13 saves in the two games. The Hawks were picked to finish in 12th place in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.

Last Meeting Between the Schools: The Mount posted a 2-1 victory at Saint Joseph's on September 4, 2009. Mary McCarron scored both goals for the Mount, including the game-winner 14:22 into the second half. Goalkeeper Alicia Miller made eight saves in the win while Christine Neal had four saves for the Hawks. Maggie Lupinski scored the Saint Joseph's goal. The teams each had 15 shots in the game.
Historic Win: The Mount's 1-0 overtime victory over Rider was just the second in a season opener for the Mount women's soccer team. It was also the first time in program history the team has won its season opener on the road. The Mount is now 2-18 all-time in season openers with the other victory coming against Delaware State (10-0) in 2005.
Home Openers: The Mount will be hosting the 20th home opener in program history against Saint Joseph's. The Mountaineers are 4-14-1 all-time in home openers, including a 1-1 draw with George Mason last season. The Mount's last victory in a home opener was a 10-0 thrashing of Delaware State in 2005.
Clean Sheets: Senior goalkeeper Alicia Miller posted her eighth career shutout in the Mount's 1-0 overtime win at Rider. The eighth shutouts are second all-time at the Mount behind Anna Lebo, who had 10 shutouts from 2004-07.
Miller Time: Senior goalkeeper Alicia Miller is second all-time in program history with 331 saves, trailing Anna Lebo (2004-07), who made 350 saves in her career. Miller also ranks fifth in career goals against average (1.99) and save percentage (.761). She already owns the school record for 52 career starts in goal while her 54 games played are five behind Lebo's school record for goalkeepers. Miller's 1.19 goals against average last season was the third-best single-season mark in Mount history.
Winship Moving Up Scoring List: Senior forward Sadie Winship has moved into a tie for 10th-place on the Mount's all-time points list. Winship, who has 10 goals and five assists in her Mount career, is tied for ninth all-time in goals scored.
Extra Time: Sadie Winship's overtime game-winner at Rider gives the Mount three consecutive wins in overtime games dating back to last season. The Mount had 2-1 overtime wins over Wagner (Oct. 22) and Bryant (Oct. 29) late last season prior to the win over Rider in the season opener. The Mountaineers are now 4-5-6 in overtime games under head coach Tom Gosselin.
Preseason Poll: The Mount was picked to finish 10th in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches poll.
