Box Score Washington, D.C. (September 16, 2011)--Freshman Alicia Mirando's first collegiate goal lifted the Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team to a 1-1 draw at American on Friday afternoon.
Senior goalkeeper Alicia Miller made eight saves in the game to become the Mount's all-time leader in career saves.
Trailing 1-0 midway through the second half, Mirando took advantage of a miscue by the American goalkeeper on a cross to fire a shot into an open net to even the score in the 68th minute.
The Eagles (2-5-1) had taken the lead when Nicole Paviglionite converted a Jasmine Mohandesi cross in the 62nd minute.
The Mount (1-3-1) finished strong, outshooting American 3-0 in the second overtime period, but could not get the game-winning goal. Ragan Cote had a chance with 1:31 left in the game, but her effort was saved by American goalkeeper Arianna Efstathiou.
Miller's eight saves helped preserve the tie as American held a 26-to-11 advantage in shots in the game. Her stop in the 25th minute broke the Mount's career save record of 350 that was set by Anna Lebo (2004-07). Miller made six saves over the first 25:19 of the game and now has 354 saves in 58 career games.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday, September 18, when Saint Peter's visits Waldron Family Stadium on campus for a 1:00 p.m. game.
Notes: The Mount's home game against Bucknell that was postponed on Wednesday due to severe thunderstorms has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 27, at 4:00 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium…American now holds a 14-2-1 advantage in the all-time series that started in 1992.
