MOUNT UPDATE: Mount St. Mary's is coming
off a four-game sweep at the hands of Long Island this past
weekend. The Mount let a 9-0 lead slip away in an 11-9 loss
in the final game of the series Sunday. Mount St. Mary's has
now lost 17 games in a row, the longest losing streak by a Mount
team since the move to NCAA Division I in 1989. A bright spot
for the Mountaineers has been starting pitcher Max Brittenham, who
has tossed seven consecutive complete games. He is the first
Mount player to achieve that feat in the Mount's Division I
era. Senior Shane Eyler has been hot at the plate for the
Mount, hitting .415 over the past 16 games to take over the team
lead with a .333 average.
ABOUT THE HAWKS: Maryland-Eastern Shore
enters Thursday's doubleheader with an 8-35 record. The Hawks
lost all three games of its MEAC series with Bethune-Cookman last
weekend. Bryan Chaikowsky leads the team with a .370 average,
nine triples, six home runs and 34 RBI. Tre-Von Johnson is
hitting .329 with 19 RBI while James Newsome has a .280 average
with 25 RBI. On the mound, Matt Witte is 3-6 with a 4.68 ERA
in 65.1 innings of work. Bernard Parker leads the team with
20 appearances and has a 5.29 ERA in 32.1 innings.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES vs. MARYLAND-EASTERN
SHORE: Mount St. Mary's swept a twinbill at UMES on
March 15 and now holds a 22-4 lead in the all-time series with the
Hawks. The Mount has won the past nine matchups between the
two schools and is 8-0 all-time at home against the Hawks.
EARLIER THIS YEAR: The Mount St. Mary's
baseball team swept a doubleheader at Maryland-Eastern Shore on
March 15. The Mount rallied for an 8-7 win in 10 innings in
the opener before posting a 15-4 victory in the nightcap. Mark
Quaranta provided the heroics in the opening game, tying the
game with an RBI double in the eighth and knocking in the winning
run with a double in the top of the 10th inning.
Quaranta finished the game 4-for-6 at the plate with two doubles
and two RBI for the Mount. Trailing 7-6 in the top of the

Caron had back-to-back walks to open the inning. After Shane
Eyler flew out, Quaranta doubled to left to plate Nott with the
tying run. Caron was thrown out at home on the play trying to
score the go-ahead run. In the top of the 10th, Eyler
singled with two outs and scored when Quaranta ripped a shot to
right-center field to plate Eyler with the winning run. The
Mountaineers wasted little time taking control in the second game,
scoring eight runs in the top of the first en route to a 15-4

RBI to pace the Mountaineers while Tommy
Flynn was 3-for-5 with five runs scored and a pair of
