MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount dropped a pair of
close games in a doubleheader at Duke on Sunday to fall to 14-32 on
the season. Duke scored a run in the eighth inning to post a
2-1 victory in the opener before recording a 4-1 win in game
two. Shane Eyler, who is hitting .409 over the past 20 games,
has moved into the team lead with a .338 average. Tommy Flynn
is hitting .335 with a team-high 35 runs scored, 54 hits, 17
doubles, two triples, five home runs and a .559 slugging
percentage. On the mound, Max Brittenham is the Mount's
starter with a 4-5 record and a 2.64 ERA. He leads the team
with seven complete games and 81.2 innings pitched.
ABOUT THE HAWKS: Monmouth is 31-16
overall and leads the Northeast Conference with a 22-6 mark.
The Hawks need just one win against the Mount to clinch the NEC
regular season title. Ryan Terry tops Monmouth with a .384
average with 17 doubles, seven home runs and 40 RBI. Nick
Pulsonetti is hitting .333 with six home runs and 30 RBI while
Danny Avella has a team-high nine home runs. On the mound,
Nick Meyers is 7-1 with a 3.15 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 71.1
innings. Monmouth is 19-3 at home, 2-1 at a neutral site and
10-12 the road this season.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES vs. MONMOUTH:
Monmouth holds a 54-14 lead in the all-time series that dates back
to 1990. The Mount is 7-11 against the Hawks since 2007,
including a pair of wins to clinch the NEC Tournament in
2008. Mount St. Mary's is just 5-27 all-time at home against
Monmouth.
LAST YEAR'S SERIES: Monmouth won three of four
against the Mount last season, including an 8-7 win in 15 innings
in the opening game. The Mount held a 6-4 lead in the
14th inning and a 7-6 lead in the 15th inning
of that contest. Mount closer Mike Matta allowed two runs in
seven innings of relief in the game. Monmouth took a 4-0 win
in the second game of the opening doubleheader. The following
day, the Hawks rallied from a 4-0 deficit with six runs in the
bottom of the sixth for a 6-4 win in the opening game of a
DH. The Mount finally broke through with an 8-5 win in the
final game of the series.

Brittenham is 1-3 with an 8.13 ERA in 21.0 innings against the
