Box Score Baltimore, Md. (April 27, 2011)-The Mount St.
Mary's baseball team lost at UMBC, 7-2, on Wednesday night in a
non-conference matchup.
The Retrievers (6-26) got on the scoreboard first with a run in
the bottom of the first on a Max Himmelstein sacrifice fly.
The Mount (12-26) evened the score in the second when Shane
Eyler walked, Zach Helman singled and Josh Winter singled to left
center field to plate Eyler with the tying run.
UMBC, however, scored three times in the bottom of the second to
take the lead for good. The first run scored on a Mount error
while Himmelstein's two-run single pushed the UMBC lead to 4-1.
Rick Phillips chipped in a two-run single in the fourth and an
RBI single in the sixth for UMBC to extend the advantage to
7-1.
The Mountaineers got a run back in the eighth when Brandon Scott
singled and came around to score on an Andrew Caron double.
Michael Locondro started for the Mount, allowing four runs (one
earned) in three innings. Nick Riley struck out three in two
innings of relief while Andrew Schrock and Buddy Fields each had a
scoreless inning of relief.
Scott and Helman each went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Mount in
the loss.
Mount St. Mary's heads to Long Island for a four-game Northeast
Conference series beginning with a nine-inning game at 3:00 p.m. on
Friday.
Game Notes: UMBC leads the all-time
series, 28-11...The Mount defeated the Retrievers, 8-6, on March 29
in Emmitsburg, Md.
