Emmitsburg, Md. (April 1, 2011)--Mount St.
Mary's rolled to an 18-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in the
opening game of a four-game Northeast Conference series on Friday
afternoon at E.T. Straw Family Stadium. Senior right-hander Max
Brittenham tossed his third consecutive complete game in the
win.
After Brittenham retired the side on five pitches in the first,
Mount leadoff hitter Tommy
Flynn belted a triple to right field to set the tone
offensively for the Mount. Flynn came around to score on Michael
Foster's sacrifice fly.
The Mount (10-12, 3-6 NEC) added a pair of runs in the second to
grab a 3-0 lead. Zach

Kane had back-to-back singles to put runners on first and
second for Josh
Winter, who came through with a double to center field to
extend the lead to 3-0.
Mount St. Mary's took control of the game with a five-run third
inning. Mark

Caron walked ahead of a Shane
Eyler single to load the bases with one out. Helman followed
with a sacrifice fly and Kane doubled to plate two more runs for a
6-0 lead. Winter drove home Kane with a single up the middle and
Flynn added an RBI single to stretch the lead to 8-0.
Mount St. Mary's added four runs in the fifth and six more in
the sixth to take a commanding 18-0 advantage. In the fifth,
Winter had an RBI double with Brandon
Scott adding a run-scoring single. Flynn doubled home Scott
ahead of a Foster RBI single for a 12-0 lead.
The six-run sixth was highlighted by an RBI single by Tony
Quaranta and Caron's two-run double.
Brittenham (2-2) lost his shutout bid when Fairleigh Dickinson
(4-15, 1-4 NEC) center fielder Brian Dillon lined a home to right
with two outs in the top of the ninth. Brittenham scatted eight
hits with three strikeouts in the complete game victory to lower
his season ERA to 2.36.
At the plate, Kane went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored
and two RBI while Flynn was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two
runs scored and two runs batted in. Winter went 3-for-5 at the
plate with two doubles and a season-high four RBI while Foster
added two hits and two RBI in the victory.
The four-game series continues tomorrow with a noon doubleheader
at Straw Family Stadium on campus.
