Winter Haven, Fla. (March 7, 2011)--Mount St.
Mary's dropped a pair of games in Florida in Monday. The Mount
fell to Xavier, 12-0, before dropping a 7-4 game to Yale later in
the day.
Against Xaver, the Musketeers scored nine times in the second
inning to break the game open. Sam Nott went 2-for-3 at the plate
to pace the Mount offense while Marshall Thomason tossed two
innings of scoreless relief in the game.
Yale led the Mount 5-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh
before a rally cut into the deficit. Shane Eyler came through was
a bases-clearing double to cut the gap to 5-3. Eyler then scored
on Kyle Kane's pinch-hit double to make it a 5-4 ballgame.
Yale, however, scored single runs in the top of the seventh and
eighth innings to earn the win.
Andrew Schrock allowed three runs (one earned) in four innings
in the start for the Mount. At the plate, Nott was 2-for-4 while
Eyler went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the game.
The Mount plays at Central Florida Tuesday night in the fourth
game of the five-game trip to Florida.
