Box Score
Emmitsburg, Md. (March 30, 2011)--Mount St.
Mary's scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to rally for
a 5-4 win over Navy at E.T. Straw Family Stadium on campus. The
game was called due to snow and rain in the top half of the
eighth.
Trailing 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Mount
(9-12) rallied for three runs to earn the victory. With snow
coming down, a pair of two-out errors by Navy put runners on second
and third for Andrew
Caron, who came through with a clutch single to right to plate
the tying runs. Sam
Nott walked to put runners on first and second for Kyle
Kane, who delivered a double down the left field line to score
Caron with the go-ahead run.
Navy (14-11-1) scored the tying run in the top of the eighth on
a Mount error, but the umpire called the game at that point due to
poor field conditions. Play reverts to the last completed inning
in that situation, which sent the Mount home with the 5-4
victory.
Navy opened the scoring on a two-run homer by Jeff Bland in the
top of the second inning. The Midshipmen added an unearned run in
the third to take a 3-0 lead.
The Mount responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the
third to cut the deficit to 3-2. Tommy
Flynn manufactured the first run when he singled, moved to
second on a wild pitch, stole third and then scored when the throw
to third went into left field. Michael
Foster singled, moved to third on a wild pitch, and then scored
on Mark
Quaranta's base hit.
Navy added an unearned run in the top of the seventh on a Dave
Milanes sacrifice fly before the Mount's rally.
Brett
Moore (1-2) picked up the win, tossing a complete game,
allowing four runs (two earned) with four strikeouts. Quaranta
went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI while Kane was 2-for-4
with two doubles and the game-winning RBI. Caron reached base all
four times, going 1-for-1 with three walks.
The Mount hosts Fairleigh Dickinson for a four-game Northeast
Conference series beginning with a nine-inning game at 3:00 p.m. on
Friday at Straw Family Stadium.
