Philadelphia, Pa. (March 12, 2011)-Temple
scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for a
10-9 win over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon.
The Mount (3-5) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Tommy
Flynn walked, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on Andrew
Caron's triple.
The Owls (7-5) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the
frame and one more tally in the second. Temple scored on a wild
pitch and a Steve Nikorak RBI single in the first and on an Adrian
Perez sacrifice fly in the second.
In the top of the third, Brandon Scott and Sam
Nott put back-to-back singles to put runners on the corner.
Scott then scored on an error by Temple's catcher.
A three-run fourth inning gave the Mount a 5-3 advantage. Josh
Winter walked and came around to score when Temple pitcher
Brant Norlander had a throwing error on Michael
Foster's sacrifice bunt. Nick Walker followed with an RBI
double and later scored on a Temple error.
The Mount pushed the lead to 7-3 in the top of the sixth inning
with a pair of runs. Flynn had an RBI double while Scott added an
run-scoring single in the frame.
Temple, however, scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth
to take a 10-7 lead. Back-to-back singles chased Mount starter Brett
Moore to start the rally. Reliever Nick Riley came in and
Bryon McKoy's sacrifice fly plated the first run while Perez
knocked in the second with a double. Ryan Ferguson's two-run
double evened the score at 7-7.
After an error and an infield single, Taylor Juran cleared the
bases with a double to give the Owls a 10-7 lead.
The Mount got a pair of runs back in the top of the seventh to
cut the margin to 10-9. The first run scored on an error while
Walker added a run-scoring single. Temple reliever Steve Visnic
retired the Mount in order in each of the last two innings to
preserve the win.
Walker paced the Mount by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and
two RBI while Scott added a pair of hits in the game as well.
Moore allowed five runs in five innings of work. Andrew
Schrock and Dan
Horner each pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
The Mount closes out the weekend tomorrow at Saint Joseph's.
