Baseball Heads to Philadelphia for Three Games This Weekend

MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount went 2-3 on its five-game trip to Florida. Mount St. Mary's posted a 2-1 victory over Central Florida and a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Miami (Ohio). Sam Nott leads the Mount with a .533 average while Shane Eyler is hitting .333 with a team-high five RBI. The Mount offense has struggled as a whole, averaging just 3.0 runs per game while posting a team batting average of .240. On the mound, Vincent Molesky has a 2.57 ERA after pitching seven strong innings in his start against Miami (Ohio). Max Brittenham has a 3.72 ERA in a pair of starts as well. The Mount's team ERA is 5.71 through six games.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The Mount is 0-3 all-time against Villanova with all three games being played in Florida. The Wildcats posted a 7-5 win in the last meeting on March 1, 2009. Mount St. Mary's is 1-1 against Temple with a 10-2 win on March 11, 2004 and a 4-1 loss in 1998. The Mount is 1-0 all-time against Saint Joseph's, recording a 7-5 win over the Hawks on March 25, 1994.

CLOSE CALLS: The Mount's two victories this year have been in one-run games. The Mountaineers rallied for a 3-2 win over Miami (Ohio) in 10 innings for their first win of the year and then downed Central Florida, 2-1.

QUICK START: Sophomore outfielder Sam Nott has started the 2011 season quickly at the plate. Nott leads the Mount with a .533 average and a .733 slugging percentage. Nott has recorded a multiple-hit game in three of his four starts this season.

OFFENSE STRUGGLING: The Mountaineers have struggled at the plate to open the 2011 season, posting a team average of .240 while averaging 3.0 runs per game. The Mount scored a season-high five runs in the season opener at George Mason and have been held to three or less runs in half of the games this year.

PRESEASON PICKS: The Mount was tabbed to finish in sixth place in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Central Connecticut State was picked to finish first, followed by Monmouth, Bryant, Wagner, Sacred Heart and the Mount.

UP NEXT: Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Tuesday, March 15, with a doubleheader at Maryland-Eastern Shore.
