EMMITSBURG, Md. - Radford scored with 1:36 left in overtime to down Mount St. Mary's 3-2 in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday.

Eric Detzel (York, Pa./Central York) dished out two assists for the Mount (0-2) while Chris Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) and Kyle Patrick (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) each scored their first goals of the season. Chris Davis (Townsville, Australia/Kirwan State) made four saves in the loss.

After a foul right outside the top of the penalty box, Bernardo Ulmo hit his free kick past the Mountaineers' defensive wall on a low-line drive into the right netting at the 98:24 mark to propel the Highlanders (1-0) to the win. Ulmo also added an assist while Brian Gwanzura and Iyiola Awosika posted the first two tallies of the match for the visitors. Ryan Taylor made four saves in the winning effort.

Radford took an early 2-0 lead in its season opener in the first eight minutes of the match. Mount St. Mary's battled back to tie the game at 2, but the Highlanders got the decisive goal in overtime to improve to 3-0-1 against the Mount.

Ulmo set up the first goal of the afternoon with a through ball down the center of the field to Gwanzura, who knocked in his first tally of year at the 5:20 mark. After a Mountaineer turnover, Kevin Handlin passed the ball ahead to Awosika at 7:23 for a 2-0 lead.

Mount St. Mary's notched its first goal of the season in the 31st minute. Will Thomas (Mount Rainer, Md./The Heights) passed the ball from the left to Detzel and then the senior tapped the ball to Wheeler for his first goal of the season and 21st of his career to crack the program's all-time career Top-10 in goals at the 30:35 mark.

Detzel then had a hand in the game-tying goal when he sent a through ball ahead to Patrick for his first goal of the year at 48:12.

Both teams had several chances to break the tie the rest of the way, but it wasn't until Ulmo scored in the extra session that the standstill was broken.

The Mount had a flurry of chances after the game was tied after Patrick (51st minute), Wheeler (53rd minute and 59th minute) each had shots stopped by Taylor. Scott Phinith (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) had a one-on-one with Taylor on the right side and tried to hit the far post, but missed wide in the 69th minute. Ian Hendrie (Potomac, Md./St. Andrews Episcopal School) gave the Mountaineers their last shot in regulation missing wide in the 85th minute and Patrick had the squad's only chance in the extra session and missed wide in the 91st minute. Wheeler also missed a golden chance to score in the first half when his header nicked off the crossbar with 38 seconds left until intermission.

Along with moving into 10th place on the all-time career goal list, Wheeler moved into third place on the Mount's Division I chart. Detzel moved into eighth place on the Mount Division I career assist list with 11 helpers.
