EMMITSBURG, Md. - Koudzo Komlan (Lome, Togo/Upper Darby [Pa.]) scored his first collegiate goal in the 61st minute to lift Mount St. Mary's past George Washington 4-3 in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday.

After the Colonials (1-3) rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie the game at 3, Komlan took a long ball and beat on the oncoming goalkeeper and popped the ball over his head into the netting for the decisive tally and his first career score.

Eric Detzel (York, Pa./Central York) powered the Mount (2-2) in the first half with a goal and two assists in a span of three minutes and five seconds. Chris Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) and Will Thomas (Mount Rainer, Md./The Heights) were the beneficiaries on Detzel's two helpers.

Seth Rudolph posted all three tallies for George Washington and converted defender Jake Davis turned away nine shots in the loss.

Mount St. Mary's was in control of the play for most of the match, but had to look to a sophomore defender's heroics to come away with its first win against the Colonials in program history.

George Washington got the scoring started when Rudolph intercepted a ball from a Mountaineer defender and found the back of the twine at the 21:44 mark.

The Mount then got a boost from one of its senior co-captains to help Mount St. Mary's score three times in three minutes and four seconds. Detzel served the ball ahead to Wheeler, who beat a defender and then found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season at 31:05.

Detzel then gave the Mount a 2-1 lead when he punched in his first marker of the season from 25-yards out that was aided by knocking off the right post into the goal at 32:54. The senior capped the surge with a corner kick serve from the right that found Thomas' head for his first goal of the year at 34:09 from a two-goal lead.

Down 3-1 at the break, the Colonials' Rudolph then scored back-to-back goals to knot the game at 3. He did a similar trick as his first score by stealing the ball and finding the twine at 48:02 before he completed the hat trick off a free kick pass from Brice Carr at 54:36 to even the match.

With the game tied, Komlan got his chance to shine. After Davis made a great save on Komlan 37 seconds earlier by making a diving grab right before the ball went over the end line, the sophomore kept pace with a long ball and made a move on the Colonials' goalkeeper leaving the pipes wide open and Komlan popped the ball over Davis' head for the decisive score at 60:57.

Mount St. Mary's outshot George Washington 23-6 on the afternoon.

It was a great week for the Mount's Top-2 scorers. Wheeler registered three goals in the two games after scoring twice against Howard in a 2-0 win on Tuesday before finding the twine against the Colonials for his fourth goal of the year and 24th time in his career. Along with his goal and two assists on the day, Detzel added an assist against the Bison to rank second on the squad with a goal and four assists for six points. The senior has moved into eighth place on the program's all-time career assist list with 14 helpers.

The Mount returns to action on Tuesday when the squad travels to Rider. Game time is 4 p.m.
