Davidson, N.C. (February 27, 2010)--Kyle Kane
belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to break a
3-3 tie and lift Mount St. Mary's to a 6-5 win over Presbyterian on
Saturday afternoon.
With the score tied at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the
seventh, Jacob Darr reached on an error with two outs. Kane
followed with his two run homer. Shane Eyler was hit by a pitch
and Josh Winter singled to put runners at first and second. After
a balk, Eyler stole home to give the Mount a 6-3 advantage.
Presbyterian cut the gap to 6-4 with an RBI double in the top of
the eight. In the ninth, The Blue Hose put runners on first and
third with no outs before Mount closer Mike Matta came into the
game. An error allowed a run to score, putting runners on second
and third with no outs and the Mount leading 6-5. Mtta, however,
got a strikeout, a popout and a grounder to get out of the jam and
give the Mount the win.
The Mount took an early 2-0 lead on RBI singles from Kane and
Winter in the bottom of the first. The Blue Hose evened the score
with a pair of runs in the third, but Zach Helman triple and Darr
got an RBI on an error for a 3-2 Mount lead. Presbyterian scored
in the top of the sixth to knot the game at 3-3.
Kent Worthington allowed three runs in 5.1 innings with four
strikeouts in a no-decision for the Mount. Brady Feigl allowed two
runs (one earned) in 2.2 innings to pick up the win while Mike
Matta had the save.
Kane went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI to pace the
offense. Helman, Winter and Matta added two hits each in the
win.
The Mount returns to action tomorrow against Davidson.
