Box Score

LORETTO, Pa. - Saint Francis (Pa.) scored in the 107th minute to edge Mount St. Mary's 1-0 in double overtime in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Monday. With the loss, the Mount was eliminated from playoff contention.

Chris Davis (Townsville, Australia/Kirwan State) made five saves for the Mountaineers (7-10-0, 4-5-0 NEC) in the loss.

"The boys played with lots of passion and pride and it's a shame we did not get the result that we deserved," said head coach Rob Ryerson. "We will regroup and look forward to our final match on Friday to honor a special group of seniors."

Sean O'Reilly served a long ball to Owen Gombami, who tipped into the lower right netting at the 106:17 mark to hand the Red Flash (10-5-1, 6-2-1 NEC) the double-overtime victory. Daniel Valcicak made five saves in the winning effort.

Mount St. Mary's had several chances to get on the scoreboard in overtime, but could not convert. Chris Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) had a pair of shots stopped by Valcicak in the first overtime in the 92nd and 99th minutes. In the second overtime, Wheeler had his shot blocked 51 seconds into the extra session for the Mount's last scoring chance before Gombami's tally.

In regulation, Kyle Patrick (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) gave Mount St. Mary's its first shot on goal, but Valcicak turned the chance away in the 19th minute before Scott Phinith (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) was stopped by the Saint Francis (Pa.) netminder in the 35th minute. Phinith also had the Mount's lone opportunity on goal in the second half, but Valcicak made the stop with 2:03 left in regulation to force overtime.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Friday against Monmouth. Game time is 3 p.m. Prior to the game, the Mount will honor seniors Davis, Phinith, Eric Detzel (York, Pa./Central York), Ty Fenstermacher (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and Phil Tavares (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha).
