Women's Soccer Loses to Saint Francis (Pa.), 6-1

Loretto, Pa. (October 3, 2010)--The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team lost at Saint Francis (Pa.), 6-1, on Sunday afternoon. Junior Sarah Malpezzi (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) scored her second goal of the season for the Mountaineers (3-6-3, 0-2-1 NEC).

The Red Flash (8-3-1, 2-1-0 NEC) scored three times in the first half to break the game open. Haleigh Dunyon opened the scoring just 5:07 into the game for her sixth goal of the year. Melissa Lookingland and Codi Bixler added goals near the end of the half to stetch the lead to 3-0.

In the second half, Tesa McKibben scored a pair of goals with Dunyon adding her second of the game. Malpezzi scored on a Ieva Kibirkstis (Montreal, Quebe/Ecole Secondaire Des Sources) with just over 15 minutes left to cut the deficit to 5-1.

Alicia Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made six saves while allowing three goals in the first half. Freshman Alina Rakiewicz (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) made her first appearance in a Mount game, allowing three goals with four saves in the second half.

McKibben finished with two goals and two assists for the Red Flash while Dunyon had two goals.

Saint Francis (Pa.) outshot the Mount, 24-to-5, in the game, including 12-to-1 in the first half.

The Mount returns to action on Friday, October 8, at Central Connecticut State.
