Box Score

Brooklyn, N.Y. (October 24, 2010)--Long Island edged Mount St. Mary's, 1-0, in women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon.  The league-leading Blackbirds scored the game-winning goal with just under 10 minutes left in the contest.

In a defensive battle, Long Island (13-1-3, 7-0-1 NEC) held a 3-0 edge in shots in the first half as the game went to the intermission in a scoreless draw.  Neither goalkeeper had to make a save in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Long Island held a 12-to-2 shot advantage, but only three of those shots were on goal.  The game-winning goal was set up on a throw-in deep in Mount territory from Caitlyn Meadows. Meadows' throw was headed on by Kayleigh Morgan to a charging Katie Egan, who  poked a shot into the net for the match-winner.

The Mount (4-11-3, 1-7-1 NEC) had a chance to tie, but Jackie Corley's shot off a corner kick in the 83rd minute went wide.

Goalkeeper Alicia Miller made two saves in the loss while LIU keeper Jessica Sexton did not have to make a save in the shutout win.

The Mount concludes the 2010 season with a home game against Bryant on Friday, October 29, at 3:30 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium.
