Mount Rallies Past Wagner, 2-1, in Overtime

Mount St. Mary's rallied past Wagner, 2-1, in overtime in women's soccer action on Friday afternoon.   The Mount scored with 39 seconds left in regulation to tie the score.

Trailing 1-0 in the final minute, senior Jenna Stern (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) picked up a loose ball in the penalty box and buried a shot into the lower right corner of the goal to send the game into overtime.  It was Stern's first career goal.

In the extra session, Jackie Corley (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) scored the game-winner with just 11 seconds left in the first overtime.  Amy Song (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) started the play with a long throw-in to the box that tipped off the goalies hands to Corley, who chested the ball into the goal.

The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Mountaineers (4-10-3, 1-6-1 NEC) that including one-goal defeats in each of the past four games.

After a scoreless first half, Wagner (6-10-2, 2-3-2 NEC) grabbed a one-goal lead when Whitney Prindible headed a Katie Keown free kick to the top right corner of the goal.

Mount St. Mary's held a 23-to-11 advantage in shots in the game while holding an 11-to-5 edge in corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Alicia Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made five saves in the win while Wagner goalkeeper Katie Marcy had eight saves.

The Mount returns to action on Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game at NEC leader Long Island.
