Women's Soccer Falls To Fairleigh Dickinson, 1-0

Box Score

EMMITSBURG, Md. - Fairleigh Dickinson defeated Mount St. Mary's 1-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) women's soccer action on Sunday.

Amanda Kitzmiller (Mine Hill, N.J./Morris Catholic) made three saves for the Mount (3-10-3, 0-6-1 NEC) in her first start of the season. Kitzmiller and fellow seniors Kaitlyn Chambers (Knowlton, N.J./Notre Dame) and Jenna Stern (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) along with graduate student Kaylyn Mahon (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) were honored for Senior Day prior to the start of the match.

Stephanie Austin registered her first goal of the season in the 75th minute off a Noelle Harner assist for the only goal of the afternoon. Austin punched in a shot off a header from Harner eight-yards out at the 74:22 mark to hand the Knights (1-13-0, 1-5-0) the victory. Stephanie Tanzi made three saves in her first shutout of the year.

Playing with the wind in the second half, the Mountaineers had their best chances to score in the final frame. Sarah Malpezzi (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) had her shot stopped by Tanzi in the 60th minute. A minute later, Mahon almost put Mount St. Mary's on top. With Tanzi out of position, the graduate student hit the far post and then tried to knock in her own rebound only to see Tanzi scoop up the scoring chance right before the ball went over the line. Malpezzi then gave the Mount its final chance, but Tanzi turned the shot away to secure the victory.

The Mount returns to action at Wagner on Friday. Game time is 3 p.m.
