Sacred Heart Downs Women's Soccer With Decisive Goal In Final Minute, 2-1

EMMITSBURG, Md. - Sacred Heart scored with 33 seconds left to upend Mount St. Mary's 2-1 in Northeast Conference (NEC) women's soccer action on Friday.

Sadie Winship (York, Pa./Eastern York) notched her second goal of the season off a Andrea Bujacich (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) assist for the Mount (3-9-3, 0-5-1 NEC) while Alicia Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made six saves in the loss.

Alyssa Brandofino dished out two assists for the Pioneers (7-4-3, 3-1-1 NEC) and Heather Quevillion and Leigh Dogmanits each had a goal. Meghan Reichelt made three stops in the winning effort.

Sacred Heart rallied from a 1-0 deficit to score twice in the second half and come from behind for the victory.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Brandofino served a corner kick from the right to the center of the box where Quevillion nailed the shot into the twine to knot the match at 1 at the 50:25 mark.

The game remained tied until the final minute of play when Brandofino served a free kick into the box to Dogmantis, who punched home the decisive score with 33 ticks on the clock to hand the Pioneers a 2-1 win.

Mount St. Mary's grabbed an early 1-0 lead when Bujacich served a ball from the defensive side ahead to Winship, who then beat the keeper and found the twine at the 35:42 mark. Sacred Heart then scored the final two goals of the afternoon to earn the victory.

After the Pioneers tied the game, the Mount had one scoring opportunity when Winship missed wide in the 55th minute. The squad's best chance to put a second goal on the scoreboard came late in the first half when Sarah Malpezzi (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey), Mary McCarron (Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and Tierney Carabba (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield Township) each had a shot turned away by Reichelt in a span of 25 seconds in the final five minutes of the half.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday against Fairleigh Dickinson. Match time is 1 p.m. Prior to the game, the Mount will honor graduate student Kaylyn Mahon (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) and seniors Kaitlyn Chambers (Knowlton, N.J./Notre Dame), Amanda Kitzmiller (Mine Hill, N.J./Morris Catholic) and Jenna Stern (Millersville, Md./Old Mill).
