Emmitsburg, Md. (September 4, 2009)--Sophomore
Dylan Bernard (Frederick, Md./Urbana) finished
eighth overall to pace the Mount St. Mary's men's cross country
team at the Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals on campus. On the women's
side, freshman Megan Kinsella (Allentown, Pa./Allentown
Central Catholic) paced the Mountaineers with a 12th-place
overall finish.
In the men's race,
American had the top seven runners to cruise to a perfect 5-0
record at the meet, which used a dual-meet scoring format. The
Eagles won each of their five matches by a perfect 15-50 score.
Navy was second with a 4-1 record while George Washington was third
with a 3-2 mark. The Mount, Maryland-Baltimore County and Saint
Francis (Pa.) were tied for fourth with 1-4 records.
American's Josh Olsen
won the race, finishing the 5K course in a time of 15:42.52,
finishing four seconds ahead of teammates Craig Brown and Jeff
Brannigan.
For Mount St. Mary's,
Bernard, an All-Northeast Conference performer last season, was the
Mount's top's runner, finishing eighth overall. Freshman
Sean Caskey (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) was the
second Mountaineer to cross the finish line with a time of 16:27.29
(23rd). Senior All-NEC performer Kyle Ryan (New Market,
Md./Linganore) was 33rd with a time of 16:39.57 while
freshman Chris Swisko (Aberdeen, Md./Calvert Hall)
was 35th with a time of 16:40.82.
On the women's side,
Navy won the meet for the second-straight year, posting a perfect
5-0 mark in the dual scoring. UMBC (4-1) was second, followed by
American (3-2), George Washington (2-3), Mount St. Mary's (1-4) and
Saint Francis (Pa.) (0-5).
Individually,
American's Octavia Rinehardt finished in first place at the
meet, posting a time of 18:22.80 for the 5K course. UMBC's Sara
Parkinson was second with a time of 18:26.72 while last year's
winner, Amy Watson of Navy, was third with a time of 18:59.58.
The Mount's top three
finishers on the women's side were freshman, paced by Kinsella's
12th-place finish. Kathryn Franke (Glen Arm, Md./Loch
Raven) was 19th overall with a time of 19:58.56 while
Colleen Smith (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) was 42nd
overall. Senior Maura Tipping (Lansdowne, Pa./Merion Mercy
Academy) was 46th in teh field.
The Mount men's and
women's cross country teams are in action next Saturday, September
5th, at the Navy Invitational.
