Buckell Defeats Baseball, 22-9

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Bucknell defeated Mount St. Mary's 22-9 in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday.

Shane Eyler (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) paced the Mount (2-7) with a 4-for-4 performance, a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs. Kyle Kane (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) added a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs while Zach Helman (Waynesboro, Pa,/Waynesboro) posted two hits, two RBIs and a run scored in the loss.

Andrew Loucks fueled the Bison (6-9) with a 6-for-7 afternoon, four RBIs and three runs scored, and Doug Shribman registered three hits, four runs scored and three RBIs in the winning effort.

Bucknell rallied from a 5-0 deficit with 12 unanswered runs and never looked back to earn its sixth win of the year.

Trailing, 5-0, the Bison started its comeback in the fourth when Loucks brought home Bucknell's first run of the day on a double to cut the margin to four runs.

The Bison then exploded for 10 runs in the fifth. Dane Grandizio started the frame with a solo home run before Bob Donato doubled in two runs and Loucks tied the game at 5 on a run-scoring single. Bucknell took the lead on a B.J. LaRosa double before Bret Sokirka plated another run with a double of his own for a 7-5 margin. Ben Allen hit a two-run homer, Grandizio scored on a pass ball and Andrew Brouse capped the 10-run outburst with a run-scoring single to give the Bison an 11-5 advantage.

Bucknell added a run in the sixth thanks to a Grandizio sacrifice fly for a seven-run margin.

The Mountaineers struck back with two runs in the sixth. Eyler led off the inning with a double and came around to score on Joe Kavanagh's (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) single before Kavanagh scored on Ryan Stamp's (Waldorf, Md./Dematha Catholic) long sacrifice fly to center field to trim the margin to 11-7.

The Bison answered right back with two runs in the seventh and five in the eighth to extend its advantage to 19-7. In the seventh, Zachary Brown plated a run on a sacrifice fly and Sokirka singled through the right side to bring home another run.

Scribman started the scoring in the eighth thanks to his RBI single through the ride side before Loucks hit a two-run double and Brown nailed a two-run homer to cap a five-run eighth inning.

Mount St. Mary's responded with two runs in the bottom half of the stanza after Eyler singled up the middle and Helman drilled his first home run of the season to left field to cut the deficit to 19-9.

Bucknell added a Mark Figgie RBI double to left center and a Loucks two-run homer to seal a 22-9 victory.

The Mount jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in the first three innings. Matt Staso (Ellicott City, Md./Mount St. Joseph) got the scoring started in the first on a solo home run. After Jake Darr (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) walked, Kane drilled a two-run roundtripper to give the Mountaineers a 3-0 edge after the first inning.

Mount St. Mary's added two runs in the third to take a 5-0 advantage. Kane singled and came around to score on Eyler's two-run homer. The Bison then scored 12 unanswered runs to go on for the win.

The Mount returns to action at ET Straw Family Stadium on Thursday against Navy. Game time is 3 p.m.
