College Park, Md. (September 21, 2008)--Maryland
scored nine goals in the first half in a 10-0 win over visiting
Mount St. Mary's in women's soccer action at Ludwig Field on Sunday
afternoon. With the loss, the Mount drops to 1-9-0 on the
season.
The Terrapins (4-3-1) opened the scoring 5:04 into the game when
she finished a cross for the first of her two goals of the game.
Nataly Arias then scored consecutive goals for a commanding 3-0
Terrapin lead. The offensive barrage continued as Maryland scored
six more times for a 9-0 lead at the half.
Amanda Kitzmiller
(Mine Hill,
N.J./Morris Catholic) allowed one goal while
making three saves in the second half for the Mount. Alicia
Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made four saves in the
opening 45 minutes.
Maryland outshot the Mount, 25-to-8 in the game, including 19-to-3
in the first half.
The 10 goals were the most allowed by a Mount team since a 13-0
loss to American on Sept. 12, 1993. The 10-goal margin of defeat
is the fourth-highest in school history.
The Mount returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 28, with a 1:00 p.m.
game at Lehigh.
