Holmdel,
N.J. (November 1, 2008)--Mount
St. Mary's men's cross country had three runners earn All-Northeast
Conference honors en route to a second-place finish at the NEC
Championships held at Holmdel Park on Saturday afternoon. The Mount women finished in
eighth place at the event.
Junior
Kyle Ryan (New Market,
Md./Linganore) finished in fourth place while freshman
Dylan Bernard
(Frederick, Md./Urbana) was right behind in fifth place to
pace the Mount and earn All-NEC honors. Ryan finished the 8K Course in a time
of 26:49.7 while Bernard had a mark of 27:01.7. Senior Matt Logie (Germantown,
Md./Northwest) finished 13th with a time of
27:13.4 to also earn All-NEC honors. It is the fourth-straight year Logie
has earned a spot on the All-Conference team.
Morgan
Sowell (Frederick, Md./Frederick) finished
20th overall and Justin Brackett (Point Pleasant,
N.J./Toms River North) 34th to round out the
Mount's top five.
Quinnipiac
took first place behind four all-NEC performers and 52 points,
while Mount St. Mary's landed a trio of all-league honorees en
route to taking second place (76). Sacred Heart totaled 102 points,
good for third place on the team leaderboard, as Monmouth (103) and
Wagner (126) rounded out the top-five. Saint Francis (PA) turned in
a sixth-place standing with 138 points, whil Central Connecticut
State (148), Robert Morris (185), Bryant (189), Long Island (287)
and St. Francis (NY) (297) rounded out the 12-team
field.
The
Mount women were led by Liz Kessler (Mount Laurel, N.J./Paul
VI) who placed 35th in the field. The rest of the Mount's top five
included Brianne
Vozzella (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) (38th),
Samantha Willox (Kent
Island, Md./Kent Island) (50th), Jessica
Rafeedie (Germantown,
Md./Northwest) (55th) and Maura Tipping (Landsdowne,
Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) (58th).
On
the women's side, Quinnipiac had four runners finish in the top-14,
each earning all-Conference accolades and propelling the Bobcats to
the team title with 32 points. Sacred Heart also had four all-NEC
performers in its second place finish (62), while Monmouth claimed
third with two all-league harriers and 76 points. Saint Francis
(Pa.), which is home to two all-Conference honorees, scored 113
points and Central Connecticut State totaled 129 points to round
out the top-five. Wagner's 157-point effort was good for sixth,
while Robert Morris (192), Mount St. Mary's (209), Bryant (249),
Long Island (290), St. Francis (NY) (310) and Fairleigh Dickinson
(349) completed the field.
Both
teams head to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals in two
weeks.
