Mount Downed by Towson, 3-1

Emmitsburg, Md. (September 21, 2007)--Towson downed Mount St. Mary's, 3-1, in a non-conference matchup at Waldron Family Stadium on Friday afternoon. Mount St. Mary's senior Karyn Farrar (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) scored the Mount's goal in the game.

Towson (6-1) jumped on the scoreboard early when Brittany Hadaway tapped a cross from Marissa Gross past Mount goalkeeper Anna Lebo (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) just 3:23 into the game. That would be the only score of the opening half. The Tigers held a narrow 5-to-4 edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes with Lebo making four saves and Towson goalkeeper Brandi Daniels making three.

The Tigers struck for an early goal in the second half to take a two-goal advantage. Erica Marshall converted a Katie Greenwood corner kick 4:59 into the second half to give Towson a 2-0 edge. The Mount fought back to cut the deficit in half when Farrar took a nice diagonal feed from Emily Menotti (Dover, Pa./Dover) and beat Daniels for her second goal of the season.

The Mount's Jen Baker (Frederick, Md./St. John's at Prospect Hall) had a chance to tie the game with just over eight minutes left, but her shot from 20 yeards out was saved by Daniels. Towson, however, sealed the win when Kaitlyn Zamroz scored her sixth goal of the year on a cross from Christa DeBole with 6:10 left in the contest.

The Tigers held a 13-to-8 advantage in shots in the game and took nine of the 11 corner kicks in the game. Lebo made seven saves in the loss while Daniel turned away six Mount shots for the victory.

The Mount returns to action on Sunday, September 23, with a 1:00 p.m. game at Lafayette.
