Emmitsburg, Md. (August 31, 2007)--Mount St.
Mary' s sophomore Kyle Ryan (New Market,
Md./Linganore) finished third overall at the Mount St.
Mary's 5K Duals held on campus on Friday afternoon. The Mount
women were paced by senior Casey Fleischer (Westminster,
Md./Westminster).
The meet, which featured the Mount, Maryland, Loyola, George
Washington, American and UMBC, was scored in dual-meet format. On
the men's side, Maryland was the winning team, posting a 5-0 record
in their five dual scored meets. American was second at 4-1, UMBC
and George Washington tied for third at 2-2-1, the Mount was fifth
at 1-4 and Loyola was sixth at 0-5.
On the women's side, American was a perfect 5-0 to take home
first place. Maryland was next at 4-1, followed by George
Washington (3-2), Loyola (2-3), UMBC (1-4) and Mount St. Mary's
(0-5).
Individually, Maryland's Mike Cator took the men's meet,
finishing the 5K course in a time of 16:11.14. American's Brian
McCabe was second at 16:14.57 while the Mount's Ryan was third with
a time of 16:16.73.
On the women's side, American had the top two finishers with
Kate Lilley winning the 5K race with a time of 18:50.45. Teammate
Cathleen Ford was next, followed by Alex Hyland of UMBC.
For the Mount, Ryan was the top finisher for the men, followed
by junior Morgan Sowell (Frederick, Md./Frederick)
who finished eighth overall with a time of 16:35.57. Sophomore
Kevin Morrison (Catonsville, Md./Mount St. Joseph)
was the Mount next finisher at 26th overall, followed
Justin Brackett (Point Pleasant, N.J./Toms River
North), who was 32nd in the field. Freshman Jonathan
Strike (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) was the
Mount's fifth-fastest finisher.
On the women's side for the Mount, Fleischer finished 20th
overall to pace the team, edging teammate Jessica Rafeedie
(Boyds, Md./Northwest) for the top spot on the team.
Samantha Willox (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island)
was the Mount's third-fastest finisher. Brianne Vozzella
(Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and Anna Scull
(Sunbury, Md./Milton Hershey) rounded out the top five for
the Mount.
The Mount returns to action on Saturday, September 15, at the
Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State
University in New Britain, Conn.
