Pacific Pulls Away from the Mount, 6-0

Stockton, Calif. (August 31, 2007)--Pacific pulled away from Mount St. Mary's for a 6-0 victory in the season opener for both teams in women's soccer action in Stockton, Calif., on Friday night. Mount St. Mary's senior goalkeeper Anna Lebo made eight saves in the loss. The game marked the coaching debut for Mount head coach Tom Gosselin.

The Tigers (1-0) scored late in the first half to take a 1-0 lead at the break when Laura King floated a shot from 35 yards out to beat Lebo. Pacific held a 7-to-1 advantage in shots in the half with Lebo making three saves to keep the Mount in the game.

Pacific scored five times over the final 26 minutes to break the game open. Mandi Van Dorn tallied back-to-back scores to start the late surge. Natalie McCrackin, Sammi Teramae and Carla Vellatuni added single goals to round out the scoring.

King, McCrackin and Teramae each had a goal and an assist in the victory for Pacific. Emily Menotti had two shots to pace the Mount offense. Lebo made eight saves while playing all 90 minutes in the loss while Jamie Souza had four saves to earn the shutout victory. Pacific finished with a 22-to-5 advantage in shots while taking all seven corner kicks in the contest.

The Mount returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 2, with a 3:00 p.m. (EST) game at Sacramento State.

Game Notes: The game was the Mount's first-ever in the state of California...Gosselin, a 1991 graduate of the Mount, coached at McDaniel College the past three seasons.
