The Mount baseball team fell to 3-9 on the season with an 11-2
loss to Villanova at the Santaluces Complex in Palm Beach, Fla., on
Tuesday. The Mount was held to four hits in the game at Villanova
jumped to an 11-0 lead en route to the victory.
The Wildcats (6-4) broke the game open early, scoring seven
times in the bottom of the first inning. The first nine batters
reached safely in the inning. Jordan Ellis threw six scoreless
innings in his first start of the season, taking a no-hitter into
the sixth inning before allowing a lone single to Ivor Hodgson with
two outs. He walked two and struck out four to pick up the win.
The Mount scored its lone runs of the game in the eighth
inning. Brandon Woods singled after Michael Rommett and Joe Hayes
each walked to load the bases with no outs. Lyle Kralle's
bases-loaded walk forced home the first run and Stephan Fay added a
sacrifice fly for the Mount.
The Mount faces St. Bonaventure on Thursday and Penn on Friday
to close out the seven-game trip.
