Mount St. Mary's downed St. Bonaventure, 6-4, on Saturday in its
second game of its seven-game Florida trip. Ryan Murray and Josh
Vittek each belted a two run homer in the victory.
The Mount jumped to a 2-0 lead on Murray's two-run shot in the
second inning. Stephan Fay added a sacrifice fly in the third to
stake the Mount to a 3-0 advantage. After the Bonnies struck for a
run in the fourth, Drew Counselman added a sacrifice fly in the
fifht for a 4-1 Mount lead.
The Bonnies scored in the bottom of the fifth to make the score
4-2, but Vittek blasted a two-run homer to give the Mount a
commanding 6-2 lead. The Mount held on for the victory.
Starter Andrew Germuth allowed three runs and nine hits in seven
innings of work to earn the win. Freshman Mike Matta picked up a
save, allowing one run and one hit in 1.1 innings.
Murray finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI while Vittek
was 1-for-2 with his two-run homer. Counselman went 1-for-2 with
an RBI and stolen base and Justus Yocum went 1-for-3 with a double
and a steal in the win.
