Duke completed a three-game sweep of Mount St. Mary's with a
10-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Jack Coombs Field. Drew Counselman
and Eric Smith each had RBI hits in the loss. Jonathan Anderson
went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI to lead the Blue
Devils to the win.
Anderson gave the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead in the first when he
doubled and later scored on a Brett Bartles single. The Mount
answered with a run in the second when Counselman doubled home
Smith. Duke, however, took control with two runs in the bottom of
the second, one in the third, and four in the fourth to take an 8-1
lead. Anderson's two-run single in the third gave Duke a 3-1
advantage.
Smith's RBI double in the fifth cut the deficit to 8-2, but Duke
rounded out the scoring with a pair of runs in the seventh to earn
the win.
Counselman finished 1-for-2 at the plate and Smith 1-for-4 to
pace the Mount offense. Bartles was 3-for-5 with two RBI to
complement Anderson's four-hit game.
The Mount returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 20, with a twinbill
at Maryland-Eastern Shore.
