Annapolis, Md. (September 26, 2006)--The Mount St.
Mary's women's soccer team fell at No. 25 Navy, 5-0, on Tuesday
night in a non-conference matchup. It is the third time in Mount
history that the women's soccer team has faced a ranked opponent.
The Mount falls to 2-6 on the season.
Navy (11-0), one of
only two unbeaten and untied teams in the nation, wasted little
time taking control of the game, scoring twice in the opening 7:15
of play. Brittany White, who finished with two goals and an
assist, scored 3:33 into the game on an assist from Meggie Curran.
Shelly Moeller converted a corner kick just 3:48 later for a 2-0
Navy lead 7:15 into the contest. Karie Weniger added Navy's third
goal 3:01 before the half to give the Mids a commanding 3-0 lead at
the break. Weniger took Cassie Barbaresi's long ball to the middle
and beat Mount goalkeeper Anna Lebo.
The Mids added a
pair of goals in the second half to seal the win. White scored her
second goal of the game on a Barbaresi assist at the 66:09 mark
while Carrie Myers rounded out the scoring with White assisting on
the goal.
Navy held a 25-7
advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corner kicks. Jenn Baker led
the Mount attack with three shots in the contest. Lebo made a
season-high 11 saves in the loss while Beth Reed had two saves in
80 minutes for Navy.
The Mount opens
Northeast Conference play on Friday at 3:30 p.m. when Sacred Heart
visits the MSM Soccer Field.

game against a ranked opponent.
