Senior Zach Emerson (Hillsboro, N.H./Hillsboro-Deering) and
sophomore Matt Logie (Germantown, Md./Northwest) led the Mount St.
Mary's men's cross county team to a perfect 4-0 record at the Mount
St. Mary's 5K Duals held on campus on Friday evening. Sophomore
Liz Kessler (Mount Laurel, N.J./Paul VI) finished seventh overall
to pace the women's team. The meet, which featured Mount St.
Mary's, American, George Washington, Loyola and UMBC, was scored in
a dual meet format, meaning each team had an individual matchup
against each other.
On the men's side, the Mount went a perfect 4-0 in the dual
matchups, followed by American (3-1), UMBC (2-2), Loyola (1-3) and
George Washington (0-4). For the women, American went 4-0 to lead
the way, followed by UMBC (3-1), Loyola (2-2), Mount St. Mary's
(1-3) and George Washington (0-4).
Emerson finished in second place overall for the second straight
year with a time of 16:08.06 on the 5K course to pace the Mount
men to the victory. Logie finished third with a mark of 16:12.24.
American's Dan Beardslee took home first place in the meet with a
time of 16:04.88.
The Mount men had five runners in the top 11 spots overall in
the race. Sophomore Justin Brackett (Point Pleasant, N.J./Toms
River North) was seventh with a time of 16:33.47, junior Dustin
Bauer (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) was 10th with a mark of
16:38.47 and sophomore Morgan Sowell (Frederick, Md./Frederick) was
11th with a time of 16:41.41.
For the women, Kessler was the Mount's top finisher in seventh
place with a time of 20:35.48. American took the top three spots
in the race. Kate Lilley won the event with a time of 18:57.59,
followed by Meghan Mason (19:40.35) and Cathleen Ford
(19:52.90).
Other top finishers for the Mount women included Samantha Willox
(Kent Island, Md./Kent Island) in 15th with a time of 21:34.79 and
freshman Maura Tipping (Lansdowne, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) in
16th at 21:37.11.
The Mount returns to action on Sept. 16 at the Salty Dog
Invitational hosted by the Naval Academy.
