Will Holland, a 2010 Mount St. Mary’s graduate, is in his sixth season on the Mount men's basketball coaching staff. He was promoted to associate head coach in May of 2018. Holland has been an instrumental part in guiding the Mount to NCAA Tournament appearances as both an assistant coach (2017, 2021) and as a player (2008).
In his first season on the Mountaineer staff, the Mount won its first Northeast Conference regular season title in 21 years. The Mount advanced to the NEC Championship game and hosted Saint Francis University, where Holland served as an assistant coach the previous three seasons. Hosting the NEC title game for the first time in school history, the Mountaineers rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to earn a 71-61 win and a spot in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
The Mount then edged New Orleans, 67-66, in the First Four round in Dayton for the school's first Division I tournament win since 2008. Holland was a player on the Mount's 2008 NCAA team that defeated Coppin State in the Opening Round. The Mount's win over New Orleans earned a trip to Buffalo to play top-seeded Villanova, where the Mount trailed by one point at the half before falling by the score of 76-56. This past season, Holland saw the Mountaineers win the NEC title with road victories at Wagner in the semifinals and Bryant in the championship game.
Holland returned to his alma mater after serving as an assistant coach at Saint Francis University the previous three seasons, working primarily with the perimeter players. The Red Flash ranked in the top three in the NEC in three-point percentage his final two seasons, while leading the conference in three-point defense. Holland helped guide Malik Harmon to NEC Rookie of the Year honors in 2013-14.
As a player, Holland traveled to Europe to play one season with the Academica De Coimbra squad in the Liga Portuguesa Basquetebol League from 2010 to 2011. A First Team Starting Five selection in the Poruguese Final Eight Cup, Holland contended on the international level.
Following his action in Portugal, he returned to the United States for a national tour with the renowned Washington Generals. After his brief stunt with the Generals he revisited the LPB to play for the Victoria Sport Clube in the fall of 2012. Succeeding his return trip to Portugal, he ended his professional career with the Nuevo Laredo Turos in Tamaulipas, Mexico.
Holland is a 2010 graduate of Mount St. Mary's holding a degree in Sport Management with a minor in Business Administration. He was a team captain his junior and senior seasons, a two-time participant in the Northeast Conference championships and conference semifinals, and led the NEC in 3-point percentage (51%) in 2009-10.
Holland attended Lamar High School in Houston, Texas.
