EMMITSBURG, MD (September 26, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's women's soccer had the unenviable task of facing 42 shots from the Fairfield Stags Saturday. They were up to the challenge, but two well-placed goals managed to elude the Mountaineers, who fell 2-0 in the contest.
Two goalies shined for the Mount throughout the game. Starter Abigail Makela finished with a career-high 13 saves before being sidelined with an injury. Reserve
Anna Wall denied another six, which is also a career high for the sophomore. Another eight Stags shots were blocked by Mount defenders.
The offense tallied seven attempts, with
Cassidy Nichols and
Peyton Gallagher each recording two tries.
With the result, Mount St. Mary's is 2-6-2 and 2-2-1 in the Metro Conference.
HOW THE MATCH UNFOLDED
- Both teams played to a 0-0 draw at halftime. Mount's best window to score came early, with Nichols and Gallagher earning back-to-back attempts early in the first half.
- Amelie Stewart cracked through the Mount's defense in the 52nd minute with the shot in the top right corner. Cassidy Clinton provided the assist.
- Stewart cashed in again in the 82nd minute with another top shelf strike for the brace. Bella Bingham assisted on the second goal.

Next Saturday (Oct. 3), the Mount is back at Waldron Family Stadium at the PNC Sports Complex. Marist is the opponent, and noon is the kickoff.
