Mount St. Mary's University

BALTIMORE, Md. (August 13, 2026) – Appearing in her first game as a Mount St. Mary's Mountaineer, Fineen Cregan earned the first points of the season for the women's soccer team. The opposing UMBC Retrievers were able to record three goals to take the 3-1 victory.
 
Cregan – a transfer from Akron coming over for her sophomore season – converted a penalty in the first half against UMBC keeper Amara Codd.
 
In goal, Abby Makela registered six saves. She and Payton Meara competed for the full 90 minutes.

 HOW THE GAME UNFOLDED

• UMBC opened the contest with two scores. Zoe Brossman led off with a 10^th minute strike, followed by Brooke Claggett in the 17^th minute.
• Makela recorded three saves in the early going to prevent further damage.
• Cregan's penalty served as the Mount's first shot in the 27^th minute. The strike landed in the lower left corner of the Retrievers' net.
• UMBC's Hailey Ahmed scored off a corner in the 69^th minute.

Mount St. Mary's opens their home schedule Sunday (Aug. 16) versus Towson. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. from Waldron Family Stadium at the PNC Sports Complex.
