EMMITSBURG, Md. (June 17, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's Director of Athletics
Brad Davis has signed a contract extension with the university, reinforcing the Mount's commitment to Davis' leadership and long-term vision for Mount Athletics.
"This decision reflects a shared commitment to the future of Mount Athletics and the important role athletics plays in the life of the University," said President Gerard J. Joyce, Ph. D. "Under Brad's leadership, our athletic programs have become an important contributor to enrollment growth, student engagement, and the visibility of the Mount while continuing to achieve success in the classroom and in competition. This extension signals our continued confidence in the strategies that have helped strengthen enrollment and advance the mission of the University."
"I'm incredibly grateful to President Joyce and the Board of Trustees for their trust and support," Davis said. "This extension reflects the collective effort and buy-in of our coaches, staff, student-athletes, and supporters, who believe in the future of the Mount and its vision for our athletic programs. I look forward to guiding the Mount through continued uncertain times across college athletics and emerging as a department that competes for championships and serves as the leading source of institutional pride, while advancing the Mount's mission."
Since Davis came to Emmitsburg in 2023, he has overseen tremendous enrollment and program growth. The institution added dance and women's flag football as varsity sports, elevated men's rugby from club to varsity level coverage, and placed spirit squads under the umbrella of athletics. As a result, athletic enrollment was over 700 students for 2025-26, a 31% increase in athletic headcount since Davis was hired.
Davis has spearheaded several facility renovations. First, Knott Arena underwent significant renovations in 2024 and 2025, including new videoboards, a sound system, and the playing surface, leading to a transformation of gameday experience. Additionally, the Lynne Phelan Robinson Concourse project was completed, as were significant improvements to the men's and women's basketball locker rooms and film room.
Meanwhile, construction on the $10 million Rooney Athletic Performance Center begins later this month, which will provide new facilities for athletic training, strength & conditioning, nutrition, and locker rooms for baseball and softball. On the main campus, ground was broken earlier this month on the $2.5 million Bolte Rugby Clubhouse, which will provide a 5,000 square foot rugby-specific facility on Echo Field.
In 2025, the Mount won its first MAAC Championship since becoming a conference member in 2022. The men's basketball team, under Davis' hire in first-year head coach Donny Lind, had its best Division I season in school history, winning the MAAC Tournament and a NCAA play-in game, and set the school record for wins with 23.
This past spring, the men's outdoor track & field team won the MAAC Championship. Further successes include a regular season championship for women's lacrosse and continued improvement in the MAAC's Commissioner Cup Standings each year.
In the classroom, Mount's student-athletes continue to thrive, recording a 3.34 average GPA in 2025-26, the highest in school history. The Mount's student-athletes continue to post a GPA and retention rate higher than that of the student body.
Under Davis' leadership, the Mount opted into the House Settlement and will enter its second year sharing revenue with select student-athletes. Externally, revenue generation continues at a record pace, as ticket sales, corporate sponsorship, and annual giving all have dramatically increased, as the Mount ranked second in MAAC men's basketball attendance and third in women's basketball attendance.
Davis has also enhanced the athletics administration by promoting Senior Women's Administrator
Justine Miller to Deputy Director of Athletics and
Mark Vandergrift as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications. New hires have included Abigail Vietmeier as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Governance and
Troy Gerlt as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. Jay Phillips, Director of Cross Country/Track & Field, also joined the senior staff team and serves as a mentor for head coaches and a liaison with the administration.
The fourth season of Mount Athletics with Davis at the helm begins in August.
