LEWISBURG, N.Y. (May 14, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's baseball fell to Niagara on Thursday in a close 7-6 contest, with the Purple Eagles walking the Mountaineers off in the bottom of the ninth to win the game after a substantial comeback from the away team. With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to an overall record of 21-26 while retaining a MAAC record of 12-17.
Niagara took a 5-0 lead through the first four innings of the game in Lewisburg on Thursday afternoon. The shutout was broken by the Mountaineers in the top of the fifth inning as
Ty Fredo reached base on a fielder's choice, scoring
Ryan McKay for the Mount's first run of game two.
The Mountaineers struck again in the sixth inning as
Sam Meyer singled to left center, scoring
Cameron Biller to cut the deficit to three runs.
Christian Bauman singled later in the top of the seventh, scoring
Joey Agar on the hit to left field. But the Mount cut the deficit to one run later in the top of the seventh as
Alex Mendes ground into a double play, scoring
Ty Fredo from third base to cut the lead to 5-4.
Niagara halted the buildup briefly in the bottom of the eighth inning only for the Mount bats to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning. While not notching the stolen base record in game two,
Alex Mendes homered to beyond the outfield walls, tying the game 6-6. The Purple Eagles walked the game off later in the bottom of the ninth to round out Thursday's competition.
Bauman led the Mount from the plate in game two, going 3-4 with an RBI, a run scored, and a walk. Mendes two RBIs during the game on his home run. And
Ryan McKay went 2-4 against Niagara while scoring a run in the process.
