Mount Baseball Loses Heartbreaker in Extra-Innings Against Merrimack in Emmitsburg

EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 1, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's baseball fell to Merrimack on Friday afternoon by a score of 4-2 in 10 innings. With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to 11-14 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with an overall record of 19-23.

Merrimack struck first in their half of the first inning, scoring two runners across the plate off of Mount lefty Serigne Sarre. But from then on, Sarre powered his way through the game, striking out seven through four and two-thirds on the mound for the Mount. Through the rest of the game, the Mount bats struggled at the plate while not being able to capitalize with runners on base.

Mount St. Mary's finally got on the board in the bottom of the ninth as Christian Bauman Singled through the right side of the infield, scoring Joey Agar to make things interesting. But the Mountaineers tied the game a batter later as David Stokely flew out to center field, allowing Alex Mendes to score on the sacrifice fly, forcing extra innings.

The Warriors struck again in the top of the tenth as Merrimack's Cristino doubled to dead center field, clearing the bases for a 4-2 lead. With a runner on in the bottom of the tenth inning, the Mountaineers were not able to capitalize, rounding out the defeat.

Phoenix Williams led the Mount from the plate in game one, going 3-4 with a double. Mike Toth also established himself at the plate against Merrimack in game one, going 2-3. Alex Mendes, Christian Bauman, and Ty Fredo all recorded solo hits on the day Bauman and Stokely knocking in the only RBIs of the day for the Mount. Along with Sarre, Maximus McCrary threw two and a third from the bullpen, striking out five while Kaeden Kimble featured for two batters. Even with his third accredited loss of the season, JB Manarchuck still worked three strikeouts in his two and two-thirds on the mound.
