EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 28, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's baseball ended Tuesday afternoon in the win column as the home side defeated Coppin State 6-2. With the win, the Mountaineers improved to an overall record of 19-22 in anticipation for this weekend's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series against Merrimack.
Coppin State took a 2-0 lead through the first three innings of the game on Tuesday before
Alex Mendes got the Mount in the bottom half of the third inning, sending a towering solo home run to left field to halve the Eagles lead. Later in the third inning,
Cameron Biller grounded out to third base, scoring
Ty Fredo to tie the game.
Later in the bottom of the fifth inning,
Carson Clark tripled to the alley in right center, scoring Fredo one again to take a 3-2 lead. Soon after Clark's triple, with the bases loaded,
Evan Meier worked a 3-2 count for a walk to drive in Clark to take a two-run lead.
Improving upon their lead, the Mountaineers took a three run, 5-2 lead in the bottom half of the sixth inning as
David Stokely reached base on an error by the catcher, scoring
Alex Mendes from third base. Stokely later flew out to centerfield in the bottom half of the eighth, scoring Mendes once again on a sacrifice fly to round out the win against the Eagles.
Mendes led the way at the plate for the Mount once again, going 2-3 with two walks, three runs scored, and one RBI. Fredo also recorded a two-hit day, scoring two runs of his own while working a walk. Biller, Stokely, Clark, and
Evan Meier all recorded solo hit days against Coppin State on Tuesday as well.
Starting on the Mound for the Mountaineers today,
Riley Williams fanned three batters while giving up a single run in two innings on the mound.
Mike Arndt was the first arm out of the bullpen on Tuesday, pitching an inning on the mound while giving up a single run in his own three-strikeout day. After the third inning,
Kaden Kimble came in for his weekday relief appearance, striking out nine batters in his four innings of work while remaining hitless, earning his first win of the year in the process. Both
Maximus McCrary and
JB Manarchuck came into the game for the final two innings while also going hitless, with Manarchuck earning his seventh save of the year.

The Mountaineers take on Merrimack from May 1 – May 3 for their final MAAC home series of the year, with first pitch on Friday scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
