Mount St. Mary's Stopped by Sacred Heart, 3-1, in Eight Innings in Series Finale

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 19, 2026)—Sacred Heart stunned Mount St. Mary's with a come-from-behind 3-1 victory in eight innings at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus.  The Mount falls to 15-25 overall and 10-9 in the MAAC with the loss.

Down to their last out, the Pioneers (17-27, 12-10 MAAC) evened the score on Alexa Barbera's RBI double in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.  Sacred Heart's Elle Leckrone belted a two-run shot in the top of the eighth for the winning runs.

The game was a pitcher's duel between the Mount's Emmaleigh Zagrodnicheck and Sacred Heart's Emily Campion.  The Mount broke through first with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead.  Avery Dinges was hit by a pitch, stole second and third base, and came home to score on Gina Del Giorno's single up the middle.  Del Giorno's base hit was the first of the game for the Mountaineers.

Zagrodnicheck kept the Pioneers off balance throughout the contest, and carried a one-hitter into the top of the seventh inning.  Sacred Heart's Cierra Bender led off the frame with a double to center field, and she moved to third on an Ella Stoops sacrifice bunt.  Zagrodnicheck got Charlotte Davis to lineout to short for the second out of the inning, but Barbera hit a double to the gap in left center field to tie the score.

The Mount's Maya Alvarez led off with a base hit in the bottom of the seventh, but Campion was able to get the next three batters for force extra innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, Dinges led off with a drive to the fence in right field, but was denied by a terrific catch by Barbera.  Del Giorno singled through the left side, and the Pioneers went to Emily Heath out of the bullpen.   Heath retired the final two batters to earn the save.
