Mountaineers Edged by Canisius, 2-1

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 12, 2026)--Mount St. Mary's was edged by Canisius, 2-1, in the final game of a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference three-game series at the Demske Sports Complex on Sunday.  The Golden Griffins swept the series with the Mount falling to 13-23 overall and 9-7 in the MAAC with today's loss.

The Mount took the lead in the top of the fourth when Tristin Koerner belted a solo home run to right field for a 1-0 advantage.  Canisius (11-20, 7-10 MAAC) answered in the bottom of the inning on a Sofia Escoto solo shot to tie the score.  Canisius took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a two-out Maddy Hans RBI single.

The Mount had a chance to even the score in the top of the seventh when Avery Dinges walked, stole second base, and moved to third on a groundout.  Canisius, however, was able to get the final out on a fly out to center to complete the three-game sweep.

The Mount had eight hits in the game while stranding nine base runners.  Gina Del Giorno, Sharon Manni and Koerner each had two hits in the loss.  Ellie Meier pitched a complete-game for the Mount, allowing five hits and two runs in six innings.

UP NEXT:  The Mount returns to action on Wednesday, April 15, with a 5:00 p.m. non-conference matchup at George Mason.  The Mount then returns home for a three-game MAAC series against Sacred Heart beginning with a noon doubleheader on Saturday, April 18.
