Fairfax, Va. (April 15, 2026)--Mount St. Mary's scored twice in the top of the seventh to secure a 7-5 win at George Mason in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday.
Tyra Christian hit a solo home run while
Avery Dinges reached base three times, scoring twice, to pace the Mount in the victory.
Dinges started the scoring in the first, hitting a two-out triple and then scoring on a wild pitch for a 1-0 advantage. After George Mason's Madi Sabota homered in the second to tie the score, the Mount scored twice in the third to regain the lead.
Grace Koberg walked,
Gina Del Giorno singled, and
Sharon Manni reached on an error to load the bases with one out. Dinges then drew a walk to force home the go-ahead run, and
Janie Lofland brought home another run with an RBI groundout to second. Christian hit a solo homer in the fourth to stretch the advantage to 4-1.
The Patriots (22-19) got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, but Dinges manufactured a run for the Mount (14-23) in the fifth to make it 5-2. Dinges walk and then stole second, her team-leading 32nd steal of the season. Dinges then came home when a pickoff attempt by George Mason's catcher sailed into center field.
George Mason scored three times in the fifth, evening the score at 5-5 on a Tess Altevers Harris home run. That set the stage for the Mount's two-run rally in the top of the seventh that restored the lead. Del Giorno walked to open the frame and moved to second on an
Emma Tawney sacrifice bunt.
Kelsie Bandelow then reached on an infield hit to put runners at the corners for Lofland, who rapped a base hit off the first-best bag to plate Del Giorno with the go-ahead run.
Courtney Chew added an insurance run with an RBI single to right to make it 7-5.
Sophia Vlahos set the Patriots down in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.
Dinges went 1-for-1 with a triple, two walks, an RBI and a stolen base while Del Giorno went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
Kaya Hannon started for the Mount, allowing five runs (four earned) in 5.2 innings of work. Vlahos retired all four batters she faced in a perfect relief effort to pick up the win.
The Mount is back in action this weekend with a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Confrence series, hosting Sacred Heart at Our Lady of the Meadows Field. The teams will play a doubleheader at noon on Saturday before closing the series with a single game at noon on Sunday.
