EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 4, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse came out victorious in the rainy, Wednesday afternoon match-up against Radford, defeating the Highlanders by a score of 15-6. With the win, the Mountaineers drew back to .500 on the season, equaling out their record to 3-3.
Midfielder
Shannon McTavish set the women's lacrosse single-game draw control record against Radford, securing a mammoth 19 draw controls from the start of play. The junior from Mount Airy, Maryland is now tied for fifth place for most draw controls in a NCAA Division I game for the 2026 season. McTavish also moves into the NCAA Division I Top 25 for draw controls per game with a 7.6 average.
The Mountaineers scored within the first minute of the contest, as
Ava Kraszewski converted on the Mount's second shot of the game for the first score. Radford struck back four minutes later to tie the game before
Brooke Molchanoff scored from a free position to regain the lead. Radford equaled the game with six minutes left in the first before taking the lead with three minutes left.
Emily Lee scored with 2:47 left in the quarter before the Mount's lockdown defense sent both teams into the first intermission tied at 3-3.
After a scoreless seven-minute start to the second quarter, Mount St. Mary's
Peyton Sims scored from open play, giving the Mount the lead once again. Three minutes later, Haylee Bittenger scored to give the Mount a 5-3 while Radford scored one more time on a shorthanded goal, sending both teams into the locker room with a 5-4 lead in favor of the Mountaineers.
MK Allingham started the scoring for the Mount in the third quarter with 13:37 left in the quarter. Molchanoff hit back three minutes for the Mountaineers, helping the team jump out to a 7-4 lead. After a free position was awarded to the Mount,
MK Allingham converted on the shot, scoring her second of the day and giving the Mountaineers a four-goal lead with 8:56 remaining in the quarter.
Morgan Ortega scored her first goal of the afternoon with 6:15 left in the quarter before scoring again a minute later to give the Mount a 10-4 lead. Ortega completed her third quarter hattrick and third consecutive goal with a drive on net, shooting the ball past the goalkeeper with 2:24 left in the quarter, completing her hattrick in three minutes and eleven seconds. After a six-goal, third quarter, the Mountaineers went into the game's final intermission with an eight goal, 12-4 lead.
McTavish scored her only goal of the afternoon with 12:52 left in the quarter before Molchanoff completed her hattrick with a behind-the-back goal, fooling the goalkeeper and giving the Mount a 12-4 lead. Radford vanquished the Mount's 8-0 run, scoring their first goal since the second quarter with 6:32 to play in the game.
Hailey Chester got on the scoreboard with 6:13 left in the game, sending a thundering shot from within the 12-Meter arc to give the Mount their 14
th goal of the afternoon. Radford scored one more time in the game before
Haylee Bittinger scored her second goal of the game with 3:12 left in the quarter, effectively ending the game.
Ortega and Molchanoff led the Mount on the scoring push, each scoring a hattrick respectively while Molchanoff recorded a hattrick of assists against Radford. Bittinger and Allingham scored two goals each for the Mount while Kraszewski, Sims, Lee, Chester, and McTavish all scored solo chances. Along with McTavish's 19 draw controls, the Mountaineers won 23-24 restarts against Radford.
Camille Thomas played the entire game for the Mountaineers, recording five saves in her third win of the season.
