EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 21, 2026) – Junior goalie
Bennett Wright and the Mount St. Mary's defense put together a solid defensive effort, but it was matched by Merrimack Saturday. The Warriors were able to eke out one more score to defeat the Mountaineers 9-8.
Wright finished the contest with 12 saves, stopping 57 percent of all shots on goal. On the opposing side, Jesse D'Alonzo earned 13 saves to pick up the win.
Dylan Sander finished with four caused turnovers, followed by
Brady Rauner with two.
Aidan Kilduff led the offense with a hat trick.
Kevin Whitty earned two assists, and
Gavin Schaffer finished with a goal and an assist.
Merrimack improves to 2-7 and 1-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Mount falls to 1-7 (0-3 MAAC).
HOW THE GAME UNFOLDED
- Goals by Kilduff and Carter Quested helped the Mount jump out to a 3-1 lead.
- Merrimack rallied to tie in the second quarter, but Chris Grimaldi and Brody Atkinson posted strikes for a 5-3 halftime advantage.
- Schaffer's third quarter goal matched the two-goal edge at 6-4.
- Merrimack finished with a 5-2 run to pull ahead 9-7, then held the Mount offense to one goal the rest of the way.
